Nightscapes
Shot on Bondi Beach within a ten-minute window at the end of each day when the balance of streetlight and daylight creates a perfect balance of light. I set out to make images that carry the aesthetic beauty of a landscape while retaining a distinctly human presence — a subtle narrative thread that speaks to our relationship with the ocean. In these photographs, the shoreline becomes a stage where light, gesture, and atmosphere converge, offering quiet stories shaped by the rhythm of the ocean and the last glow of the day.
The work was originally showcased at Blender Gallery in Sydney in 2007, marking its first public presentation. It went on to receive international recognition, being shortlisted for the Prix de la Photographie Paris (PX3) in 2009, and was subsequently exhibited at the Farmani gallery in New York and the Espace Dupont in Paris. These exhibitions helped affirm the series’ place within contemporary photographic discourse and highlighted its resonance across audiences and geographies.
